Lightning Strikes in Six Districts of Odisha: Result in Nine Deaths, Injuries Reported

Bhubaneswar, August 17, 2024: Today, lightning strikes in six districts of the state resulted in the tragic deaths of nine individuals and caused injuries to many others. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

In the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak, two individuals each lost their lives, while one person each died in the districts of Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Ganjam.

The Chief Minister has directed that an ex-gratia assistance of ₹4 lakh be provided to the next of kin of each deceased person. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and assured that their medical expenses will be borne by the state government.
