Bureau (28 February 2026): The Middle East conflict has escalated sharply as Iran reportedly launched coordinated missile strikes targeting seven U.S. military bases across the region. The attacks have impacted multiple Gulf nations, including Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar.
The strikes are believed to be in retaliation for earlier U.S.-Israel operations against Tehran. Reports indicate that explosions were heard in Manama and Abu Dhabi, triggering panic and raising fears of a wider regional confrontation.
U.S. Installations Under Attack
Iran reportedly targeted the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet support facility in Bahrain, particularly in the Juffair area. Smoke was seen rising from the vicinity following the missile strikes. In the UAE, the Al Dhafra Air Base—an important American military hub—was also reportedly hit.
According to Reuters, several Iranian missiles were intercepted by UAE air defense systems. The UAE strongly condemned the attack, calling it a violation of its sovereignty and international law, and asserted its right to respond.
Airspace Suspended, High Alert Issued
In response to the escalating security situation, Kuwait and the UAE temporarily closed their airspace as a precautionary measure. Security has also been tightened across key military and civilian infrastructure in Bahrain.
Meanwhile, NetBlocks reported that Iran is experiencing a near-total internet blackout following earlier strikes, adding to the uncertainty within the country.
Israeli Response and Regional Fallout
An Israeli military official stated that Israel’s objective is to significantly weaken Iran’s military capabilities and eliminate what it considers an existential threat to Israel’s national security and regional stability.
The Indian Embassy in Qatar has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals to remain cautious and follow official safety instructions amid the rising tensions.
With multiple Gulf countries now drawn into the crisis, global concern is mounting over the possibility of a prolonged and large-scale regional war.
