Desk (2 March 2026): Israel carried out airstrikes on Lebanon following missile and drone attacks launched by Hezbollah, escalating tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the airstrikes specifically targeted a senior Hezbollah figure in Beirut. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the southern suburbs of Beirut following the strike.
According to the IDF, the operation was conducted in direct response to Hezbollah’s earlier missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory. Israeli military officials stated that they would not allow Hezbollah to pose a threat to Israel’s security.
The situation remains tense, with fears of further escalation between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group. Regional observers warn that continued exchanges could widen the conflict in an already volatile Middle East.
