Desk, 23 Sept. 2026: A depression
has formed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and is
moving westwards, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in
Bhubaneswar.
The system was centred around 200
km southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha, 200 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam in
Andhra Pradesh, 210 km south of Puri and 290 km east of Visakhapatnam at 8:30
am on Wednesday.
The depression is expected to
move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression within the
next 12 hours over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the latest weather
forecast, the system is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and cross
the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and
Gopalpur between the night of September 23 and the early hours of September
24.
The weather system is expected to
bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of coastal and
southern Odisha. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast widespread
heavy rainfall in these regions as the depression approaches the coast.
Residents in coastal and southern
districts have been advised to remain alert as the weather system strengthens
and moves closer to the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coastline.
