Bhadrak (April 13, 2023): Wikipedia is often the first website that appears when searching for information on Google. While English Wikipedia is highly comprehensive, Odia Wikipedia, the first South Asian Wikipedia, has not yet reached the same level of richness. To address the need for more active contributors, a small workshop was organized for the first time in Bhadrak.
Last Wednesday, under the initiative of active Wikipedian Sangram Keshari Senapati, a workshop on gender and folklore mass content creation was held at the Shubh Pallava office in Dahaniagad, with the participation of seven youths. The workshop aimed to provide information about Wikipedia and open knowledge resources, discussing how individuals can contribute to Wikipedia.
Among the volunteers, Bichitrananda Jena, Monalisa Sahu, Varsharani Behera, Sasmita Sahu, Arupananda Nayak, Anshuman Swain, and Ashokanda Panigrahi translated various topics from English to Odia as part of the content creation effort.
This initiative is expected to enhance the number of regular contributors to Odia Wikipedia and enrich its content, promoting open knowledge and cultural preservation.
