Odisha Relives Cyclone Trauma: 25 Years After 1999 Catastrophe

Cyclone Dana hists Odisha

Bureau (October 25, 2024): October brings a shiver to the hearts of the people of Odisha, reminding them of the catastrophic event of 1999. It’s been 25 years since that day, and today, on a similar Friday, the fear feels all too familiar. Once again, the Odisha coast faces the wrath of a cyclone.

From midnight last night until this morning, the cyclone made landfall, and reports have been coming in from various places. Trees have fallen, blocking roads, and electric poles and transformers have been toppled, disrupting power supply. Since the government changed, it's not just the ministers but even the Chief Minister monitoring the situation closely, and everyone has been dealing with it with determination.

"Ask those who have faced adversity about fear. Ask those whose homes have been damaged or those who had to leave their homes and take shelter in cyclone shelters. It is easy to feel empathy from hundreds or thousands of miles away and just express it on social media. Such comments by many social media friends can be considered condemnable."

The cyclone came, causing damage. It cannot be avoided. The reduced impact of the cyclone is the will of the Almighty. We extend our gratitude to everyone who has dealt with the situation.
