Bureau (14 January 2025): Following India's defeat in the five-match Test series against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now in action mode. BCCI held a review meeting with the selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, captain Rohit Sharma, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Reports suggest that BCCI is set to implement new guidelines for the players after the disappointing performance in Australia.
According to the new guidelines, cricketers' wives will no longer be allowed to accompany them throughout the tour. Instead, family members will be permitted to stay for a maximum of two weeks during the 45-day tour. Additionally, all players will be required to travel on the team bus, and no separate travel arrangements will be allowed with family. These measures aim to enhance the team's performance.
It has also been indicated that BCCI has directed players to participate in domestic cricket. As a result, many players are expected to feature in Ranji Trophy matches. Meanwhile, the Indian team is set to play a five-match T20 series against England starting January 22. India will compete in five T20 matches and three ODIs against England before participating in the Champions Trophy.
This strategic shift by BCCI highlights the focus on improving team performance and addressing concerns raised during the review meeting.
