Sachin Tendulkar Honored with 'Safai-Giri' Award for Contributions to Cleanliness

Bureau, November 3, 2019: Renowned as the "God of Cricket," Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been honored with the 'Safai-Giri' award. This award was presented to him during the fifth edition of the Safaigiri Awards organized by the India Today Group. Sachin has been working tirelessly for the past ten years towards making India garbage-free.

On the basis of the Mo School initiative started on September 18, 2011, Sachin has contributed over a crore of rupees for the construction of toilets in 140 government schools across India. In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated Master Blaster Sachin as the ambassador for India's Swachh Bharat (Clean India) campaign.

Sachin commenced his first cleanliness drive from his hometown, Mumbai. Notably, the Safaigiri Awards, presented by the India Today Group, recognize individuals and organizations that have been actively working towards the Swachh Bharat mission for the past five years. The award was presented to Sachin Tendulkar by the Honorable President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
