Prayagraj, 19 January 2025 – A severe fire broke out in the Mahakumbh Mela area, causing significant destruction. The intense flames were visible from a distance. Firefighters responded promptly and have successfully brought the fire under control.
The blaze resulted in extensive damage to the tents surrounding the Mela. Several gas cylinders stored in the tents exploded sequentially. According to reports, 20 to 25 tents have been destroyed. The fire occurred beneath the iron bridge on the road near Akhadas.
Emergency relief and rescue operations are being expedited by the administration, ensuring no one is trapped. The fire was primarily noticed in Vivekananda Camp, close to Sector 19 and Sector 5 near the old GT Road intersection. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
The fire brigade utilized half a dozen fire trucks to extinguish the blaze effectively. The situation is now under control, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and security of the attendees.
