Bureau (18 January 2025): The much-anticipated film 'Emergency' starring Kangana Ranaut was released today. However, the release has sparked protests in various parts of Punjab. The SGPC has demanded a ban on the film's release, citing concerns over its content. Protests have been held outside several cinema halls in Mohali, with Mohali DSP Harsimran Bal stating that security measures have been tightened to ensure peaceful demonstrations. Cinema hall owners in Mohali have voluntarily canceled the film's screenings as a precautionary measure.

Similar protests have erupted in Amritsar and Ludhiana, with protesters alleging that the film portrays the Sikh community and Sant Bhindranwale in a negative light. They argue that the film hurts the sentiments of a particular community and should be immediately banned.

On the other hand, 'Emergency' has been a box office success. The film, based on a political drama, has been written and directed by Kangana Ranaut. Fans are excited to see Kangana in the role of Indira Gandhi, and her performance has been well-received. Anupam Kher's portrayal of Jayaprakash Narayan, along with Mahima Chaudhary as Pupul Jayakar, Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram, and Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has also garnered praise.
