Bhadrak, June 22, 2025: The third death anniversary of the late Rath Behera, a distinguished social worker from Charigaon village in Bant Block, was solemnly observed at the local flood shelter. The commemorative event, held to honor Behera’s contributions to the region, was presided over by teacher Panchanan Prusti and began with Vedic chants led by Pandit Nabakishore Panda.
Former Minister Prfull Samal, the chief guest, paid tribute to Behera, highlighting his tireless efforts in advancing not only Charigaon but the entire Agarapada region. Samal noted Behera’s pivotal role in establishing key institutions, including a B.Ed. and CT college, a State Bank branch, a fire station, the Barapada-Agarapada road, the Kuansamadhia-Kaupur road, an Ayurvedic hospital, and the flood shelter in his village. Inspired by the ideals of Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, Behera transformed Charigaon into a model village through his dedicated initiatives.
Eminent litterateur Jagannath Patra, another key speaker, described Behera as the “Gopabandhu of Agarapada,” emphasizing his compassionate leadership. Patra urged the community to continue Behera’s legacy by working for the region’s development as a fitting tribute. Other attendees, including labor leader Stalin Mishra, retired principal Dr. Shyamsundar Panda, writer Narayan Chandra Lenka, Kirttan Charan Nayak, columnist Subodh Kumar Sahu, retired professor Gobind Chandra Sahu, former sarpanch Banamali Behera, samiti member Dharanidhar Kar, senior citizen Golak Prusti, journalist Hemant Singh, professor Fakir Charan Shankhua, teacher Ramakant Jena, and social workers Satya Narayan Pakal, Dhruba Charan Kar, and Nrusingha Kar, lauded Behera’s love for culture, literature, and institution-building.
The event commenced with guests offering floral tributes to Behera’s portrait and statue. Former samiti member Ram Chandra Sahu delivered the welcome address. The program was supported by Minati Behera, Chinmay Behera, Shivaprasad Sahu, and Madhavananda Behera, who assisted in its coordination. The gathering reflected the community’s deep respect for Behera’s enduring contributions to Charigaon’s progress.
