Bhubaneswar (28 February 2026): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has expelled former MLA Pravat Biswal from the party on charges of indiscipline and anti-party activities.
According to party sources, the action was taken after Biswal openly opposed the recent Rajya Sabha candidate selection announced by party president Naveen Patnaik. His public criticism of the leadership’s decision reportedly triggered disciplinary proceedings within the party.
Earlier in the day, Biswal had voiced his disagreement with the choice of candidates nominated to the Rajya Sabha, expressing dissatisfaction over the decision. The party leadership viewed his remarks as a violation of party discipline.
The expulsion marks a significant development in Odisha’s political landscape, as the BJD moves to maintain internal unity ahead of key political developments.
