Office Desk (28 February 2026): Israel launched large-scale missile strikes on Iran on Friday, targeting multiple cities including the capital, Tehran. Amid the escalating conflict, Iranian authorities claimed that a missile struck a girls’ primary school in Minab city of Hormozgan province in southern Iran, killing at least 57 students and injuring more than 60 others.
According to Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the missile was reportedly aimed at a nearby Revolutionary Guard base but fell on the school instead. The building was reduced to rubble, and surrounding areas were also severely damaged.
Sudden Explosion During School Hours
Local reports stated that the attack occurred without warning while students were attending classes. A powerful explosion rocked the area, and within seconds, the school structure collapsed. Rescue teams rushed to the site and worked for hours to clear debris and pull out survivors. Injured students were immediately transported to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition.
The tragic incident has triggered widespread outrage inside Iran, with officials condemning the strike and vowing retaliation.
Iran Launches Retaliatory Strikes
Following the attacks on Tehran and other cities, Iran launched a swift counteroffensive. Reports indicate that more than 400 missiles were fired targeting U.S. military bases in the Gulf region, including facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
According to reports, missiles also struck parts of Dubai, the UAE’s most populous city, where at least one person was confirmed dead. The situation across the Gulf region remains tense, with several countries heightening security and closing airspace as a precaution.
The rapidly expanding confrontation has raised fears of a broader regional war, with global leaders calling for immediate de-escalation to prevent further civilian casualties and instability.
