Devotees Flock to Shiva Temples on First Monday of Shravan

Bureau (22 July 2019): On the first Monday of Shravan, thousands of devotees visited various Shiva temples, believing that pouring water on the Shiva Linga fulfills their wishes. Each Monday of this holy month sees a significant influx of devotees at Shaiva Peethas.

Today, over a lakh devotees poured water on the Shiva Linga at various temples, including Lingaraj in Bhubaneswar, Ladubaba in Saranakul, Rautpada Shiva Temple, Champanath in Champeswar, Kapilas in Dhenkanal, and RD in Bhadrak. Many devotees performed sand rituals at riverbanks and carried Kalash (vessels) filled with water to these temples.

The Mahanadi Riverbank saw a massive turnout of Bolbam devotees. Given the large number of devotees, extensive arrangements by the administration are necessary at these river ghats. Last month, a father lost his life while trying to save his daughter from drowning at the Mahanadi Riverbank. Local residents have urged the administration to remain vigilant to prevent such incidents.
