Bureau (18 January 2025): Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has strongly criticized Pakistan for its continued support of terrorism. Speaking at the 19th Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Lecture on Saturday, Jaishankar stated that Pakistan's backing of terrorism is beginning to consume the country like a cancer.
During his address, Jaishankar openly discussed India's relations with its neighboring countries. He highlighted India's efforts to assist neighboring nations such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka during times of crisis, pandemics, and economic downturns. In 2023, while the world turned its back on Sri Lanka, India provided a package worth over 4 billion USD to help the country.
Jaishankar accused Pakistan of being an outlier among India's neighbors due to its support for terrorism. He emphasized that this support is now affecting Pakistan's own political environment and society, likening it to a cancer that is spreading within the country.
