Iran Launches Fresh Attacks on Israel; Gulf Airspace Shut, Global Celebrities Stranded

Office Desk (1 March 2026): Iran has launched another wave of attacks on Israel, intensifying the already volatile conflict in the Middle East. Air raid sirens sounded across Israel as explosions were reported in multiple locations. A drone was reportedly spotted over Eilat, while Iranian forces are said to have targeted an Israeli military headquarters, allegedly aiming at senior military leadership.

The escalation comes in the aftermath of the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after which Tehran has significantly intensified its offensive operations. Reports indicate that explosions were heard at 11 locations stretching from Doha in Qatar to Dubai in United Arab Emirates.

Regional War Escalates

Following U.S.-Israel strikes and Iran’s subsequent retaliation, the entire Middle East appears engulfed in conflict. Iran previously targeted U.S. military bases across eight Middle Eastern nations, with some missiles reportedly striking civilian areas.

Amid the unrest, several Gulf nations temporarily closed their airspace from February 28 to March 1. As a result, hundreds of flights were indefinitely suspended at Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi Airport, leaving thousands of travelers stranded.

Celebrities and Athletes Stranded in UAE

The airspace closures have affected numerous high-profile individuals. Players participating in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships remain stuck in Dubai, including world number one Daniil Medvedev. Indian badminton star and Olympic medalist P. V. Sindhu is also stranded after her flight to Birmingham was canceled.

British boxer Amir Khan and former footballer Rio Ferdinand, who were vacationing in the UAE, have also been unable to leave. Reality TV personalities including Vicky Pattison and Laura Anderson confirmed they are stuck in Dubai amid the missile attacks. Bollywood actress Sonal Chauhan has reportedly appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance after being stranded in the UAE.

Authorities in the UAE and embassies of various countries are coordinating evacuation and assistance efforts for affected passengers.

Threats of Chemical Weapons

Iran has further escalated tensions by warning it may use chemical weapons against the United States and Israel. Meanwhile, protests erupted in Tehran following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, with large crowds gathering near Tehran University.

In India, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi lowered its national flag to half-mast in mourning. Protests were also reported in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district, where members of the Shia Muslim community demonstrated against Khamenei’s reported killing.

As hostilities continue to expand across multiple countries, global leaders have expressed concern that the region could be on the brink of a prolonged and devastating war.
