Odisha Announces Early Summer Vacation for Schools Amid Heatwave

Bhubaneswar (24 April 2026): In view of the intense heatwave conditions prevailing across the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced early summer vacations for all schools.

The decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety and well-being of students, as temperatures continue to rise sharply in several parts of the state. The proposal submitted by the School and Mass Education Department Odisha has been approved by the Chief Minister.

As per the announcement, all government, government-aided, and private schools across Odisha will remain closed from April 27 onwards.

However, authorities clarified that pre-scheduled examinations, census-related duties, and other official work will continue as planned despite the closure of schools.

The move comes amid growing concerns over student health due to soaring temperatures and prolonged heatwave conditions across the region.
